# Use MySQL as the database for an agent

> Store agent sessions in MySQL and add history to context across runs.

## Run the Example

**1. Install dependencies**

```bash theme={null}
uv pip install -U agno openai pymysql sqlalchemy
```

**2. Export your OpenAI API key**

```bash Mac/Linux theme={null}
export OPENAI_API_KEY="your_openai_api_key_here"
```

```bash Windows theme={null}
$Env:OPENAI_API_KEY="your_openai_api_key_here"
```

**3. Run MySQL**

```bash theme={null}
docker run -d --name mysql -e MYSQL_ROOT_PASSWORD=ai -e MYSQL_DATABASE=ai -e MYSQL_USER=ai -e MYSQL_PASSWORD=ai -p 3306:3306 mysql:8
```

**4. Run the example**

Save the code above as `mysql_for_agent.py`, then run:

```bash theme={null}
python mysql_for_agent.py
```
